The West India Committee is a 279-year-old Commonwealth organisation and a Royal Chartered charity. The organisation is looking to recruit research volunteers to assist the project manager for a First World War heritage project. The subject will be on the Caribbean’s contribution to the First World War. Most work will be done in our Westminster offices but successful candidates may have to travel around London.
Main areas of work will include:
- Drafting documents and pieces
- Analysing historical documents
- Researching secondary source material
- Recording of findings and relevant material
- Creating summaries and written pieces on research
Candidates should have the following skills and qualities:
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Excellent historical knowledge - (knowledge on subject is not required)
- Candidate should demonstrate punctuality and orderliness
- Good organisation skills are essential
- Experience of working in small team is desirable and good team work ethic is essential
Volunteers will have their name accredited to a significant heritage project and would be working to build content for an eBook, educational materials and a museum exhibition. The volunteers must be able to grasp the content in question and be able to produce numerous written findings in the time period allocated (4 months). The volunteers should have an interest in British history or Caribbean history, with preference being given to candidates who demonstrate broad historical knowledge. The West India Committee welcomes people from all backgrounds.
