Paul Burstow MP is looking for enthusiastic, well organised volunteers to join his campaigns and casework teams in his busy constituency office in Sutton.

You will be joining our team at a particularly exciting time as we head into the General Election campaign, and will play a crucial role in shaping the election campaign as we move towards May 2015.

Volunteers are likely to be given tasks including:

  • Drafting press releases
  • Designing and implementing campaigns
  • Taking the lead on ad hoc projects
  • Producing literature and correspondence
  • Activist management
  • Conducting research into a wide range of policy areas
  • Attend meetings and surgeries
  • Drafting responses to constituents' enquiries
  • Assisting with processing constituents' e-mails and letters
  • Answering the telephone
  • Assisting in office administration

Person Specification:

No experience is necessary and all relevant training will be given, but successful candidates will likely have:

  • A genuine desire to help people
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong ICT skills (blogging and social media an advantage)
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Strong knowledge of the British political system
  • A desire to learn how local and national politics are run in the UK
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats. You must not be a member of any other political party

This is a voluntary position and as such there are no set hours.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview to take place in the constituency office at 234 Gander Green Lane, Sutton, SM3 9QF. Interviews will take place on a flexible date but with the right candidate to start as soon as possible.
