Job Details

London Councils represents the 32 boroughs and the City of London. We aim to get the best deal for Londoners and to ensure that London’s councils have the resources, freedoms and powers to do the best possible job for their residents and local businesses.

We also run a number of services on behalf of the boroughs including the Freedom Pass, Taxicard and Health Emergency Badge.

These are challenging times for public services. We are looking for highly motivated people with enthusiasm, innovative ideas and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic, quickly changing policy environment.

The Principal Policy Officer post is generic; there are currently two vacancies in the Transport, Environment & Infrastructure Policy Team and one in the Strategic Policy Group.

Transport, Environment and Infrastructure

Suitable infrastructure provision is becoming crucial for London, given its projected population growth and its economic role for the whole of the UK. Contributing to policy development, you will research and analyse a variety of transport, environment and infrastructure development issues, manage research and policy projects, as well as write briefings, presentations and reports.

You will work closely with London borough officers and Members as well as other key agencies and organisations to develop appropriate and challenging policy proposals. The role will require some analytical skills to help find innovative solutions to London’s immense infrastructure needs and funding gap and develop creative and collective approaches to issues such as transport provision, energy, water, digital and green infrastructure - challenges that will in turn present opportunities for you to shape service delivery approaches and leave your mark on the London transport and environment landscape.

Strategic Policy Group

You will work across a range of cross-cutting policy areas including devolution and service integration, welfare reform, early intervention policies, public safety and service improvement initiatives such as community budgets and tackling complex dependency.

Closing Date: 15 September 2014

Interview/Start Dates

Closing at noon.

Interviews will be held on 23 and 24 September 2014.
