Job Details

The British Institute of Human Rights is looking for four volunteers to assist us from September - December, to help us deliver our Human Rights Tour and other work we have coming up this autumn.

BIHR is seeking to recruit two Human Rights Tour volunteers to support the delivery of our annual Human Rights Tour. Our Human Rights Tour is a series of free to attend human rights awareness days in local communities exploring human rights and how they are relevant in everyday situations. This year BIHR will be travelling to 12 towns and cities across the UK, from Ayrshire to the Isle of Wight. For more information about the Human Rights Tour go to our Human Rights Tour events page: http://bihr.org.uk/Tour2014

We are also looking to recruit one Communications Volunteer and one Human Right Volunteer. The communications role will involve assisting with our digital communications, social media presence and the roll out of BIHR’s new website. The human rights role will involve assisting with research, drafting of briefings and general administrative tasks. Both positions will also involve assisting with administration and event delivery on the Human Rights Tour when necessary.

These placements offer the opportunity to develop practical experience in project delivery, event organisation, and marketing and communications within a human rights organisation. Please note these volunteer placements will involve providing lots of administrative support to the BIHR team, they are not policy or campaigns internships. You will be joining the BIHR team at an extremely busy time and we are looking for four hard working and committed volunteers who are up for working hard, learning lots about human rights and the work of BIHR, and having some fun along the way! There will be opportunities during the placements to attend BIHR events including selected Human Rights Tour events.

Please note you must be able to commit to 2 days a week for 2-3 months starting as soon as possible. This role may involve out of hours work and travel within the UK.

NOTE: BIHR volunteers are unpaid; BIHR will refund travel expenses within London, and lunch up to £5 per day. All volunteers will be based in BIHR’s offices at Queen Mary University, Mile End Campus.

The role descriptions for each of these positions can be found here: http://bihr.org.uk/documents/general/volunteer-positions-september-2014.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
