Job Details

A woman arrives in the office with her two young children. She hasn’t been able to pay her rent this month and has been told she will be evicted tomorrow. She doesn’t have any family or friends she can turn to for help so she has come to her local MP’s office. What do you do? We are looking for a junior caseworker to join our lively, High Street office in Willesden Green. The successful applicant should have experience of dealing with members of the public, an interest in immigration and housing issues, and a commitment to helping people with their problems.

Strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to work independently are essential. The caseworker will be required to attend some constituency surgeries with the MP, occasionally at weekends or evenings.

Key Tasks

  • Provide advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others.
  • Provide information, advice and support for individuals on a range of immigration, housing, finance, health, and other issues.
  • Deal with daily queries from members of the public by phone or in person, taking the appropriate initial action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries.
  • Draft responses or respond to constituents on any issues raised on behalf of the Member.
  • Attend surgeries and other meetings to assist the Member in dealing with constituents’ issues.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
