The Institute of Physics (IOP) is a leading scientific society. We are a charitable organisation with a worldwide membership of more than 50,000, working together to advance physics education, research and application.

We are looking for a proactive policy officer to join the Institute to develop and support IOP policy work through analysis, development and communication. The Physics Policy Centre provides an active and authoritative voice for all areas of physics. They drive IOP external policy work in all areas that affect physics, from schools education through to research and innovation, working with experts to supply evidence-based advice and in-depth analysis of areas of physics policy to governments and other agencies.

The post-holder will be responsible for collecting, collating and analysing the evidence base for physics policy. Undertaking research, writing briefs and consultation responses, and assisting in drafting long-form reports and providing support to expert committees. The role leads on some specific projects and sub-projects and works with colleagues from other IOP teams, whilst maintaining CRM for parliamentarians and other senior contacts.

We are looking for a well organised and confident individual who has a proven ability to work with minimum supervision, as well as working co-operatively with others. The successful post holder will have well developed statistical and numeracy skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence others.

The following experience is essential for the role: writing long-form reports, writing for a policy audience, data collection and analysis and stakeholder engagement. A degree or equivalent is also essential, along with a good knowledge of the UK political system.
