Job Details
The Anti Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit is a charity which uses legal processes to help victims of human trafficking, modern-day slavery and labour exploitation to rebuild their lives and escape the cycle of exploitation. We assist victims to obtain safety, recovery and redress. We work to develop law, procedure and practice at a national level to enhance protection of victims and improve victim’s rights.
Benefit
Victims obtain compensation, vindication and empowerment by seeking formal redress from their employers and traffickers in the tribunals and county court. Regulating victims’ immigration status breaks cycles of exploitation. Securing housing, treatment, financial and social support promotes victims’ physical and psychological recovery.
Service
We deliver a comprehensive and dedicated service, providing employment, immigration, asylum, housing and community care legal advice. ATLEU’s holistic approach enables partners to refer clients with multiple needs.
Approach
We aim to develop jurisprudence to enhance victims' rights. We adopt a strategic approach to litigation identifying test cases to further develop the legal protections for victims and hold public authorities to account, including the police, border agency, criminal injuries compensation authority and social services. Holding public authorities to account improves protection for all victims and acts to prevent trafficking. We use our knowledge and experience to influence law and policy on human trafficking, working closely with other anti-trafficking organisations and partners.
Internship
We have three vacancies for committed and conscientious voluntary interns to assist with legal work, project work, policy work, administration work and client support.
When? For six months from the beginning of November 2014.
How often? From two to four days a week, Monday to Thursday.
