Job Details

Louise Haigh MP is seeking an Office Manager for her constituency office. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that a high standard of service is provided to constituents, to the MP and in all casework, policy work and communications.

Key responsibilities

• Line management of all staff and the smooth day to day running of the office
• Responsibility for managing all aspects of the budget
• Ensuring a range of efficient secretarial and administrative support
• Ensuring proper records are kept, including proper adherence to the Data Protection Act
• Ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notifying IPSA of contractual changes as necessary
• Manage secretarial support to special interest groups as required
• Ensure the office is fully equipped
• Overall management of the Member’s diary commitments
• Liaise with groups and stakeholders at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on the Member’s behalf

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to delegate and supervise staff and ensure there are regular team meetings
• Excellent office administration and case management skills and a knowledge of office practice to ensure that high standards of service are met and that confidentiality is maintained for constituents
• Exceptional IT skills including Microsoft Office, email and internet to draft correspondence and reports, set up and maintain spreadsheets
• Ability to organise events and develop specialist knowledge
• Genuine commitment to the constituency as well as in-depth knowledge of the national political environment
• Ability to multi-task and to work under pressure on his/her own initiative
• Driving licence and a car (desirable)

The successful candidate will also be supportive of the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interviews will take place in Sheffield in the week commencing 1 June 2015. The start date is negotiable but ideally the successful candidate will start as soon as possible.
