Job role
Conducting research in relation to the day to day business of the Parliament as well as long term campaigning and engagement objectives set by the MSP, drafting Parliamentary motions and questions, press and social media releases and responses to campaign emails and general correspondence Requirements.

Applicants must:

- Have a good grasp of political structures in Scotland
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Be able to demonstrate analytical thinking
- Must be a good team worker 

Duties include

• Gathering, analysing and presenting briefings to assist MSP in Parliamentary work and press engagements
• Drafting Parliamentary material including motions, parliamentary questions and material for speeches
• Drafting and targeting a range of communication materials including press releases, articles, annual reports, newsletters and other promotional materials
• Maintaining websites, including delivery of all copy, image and video content
• Advising MSP on effective use of social media to highlight campaigns and to attract media coverage of work
• Coordinating with colleagues within and across offices to ensure consistent messages are being communicated
• Monitoring press content to keep updated on local issues and to gauge coverage of press releases that are sent out
• Planning, execution and evaluation of community campaigns
• Handling enquiries from constituents and stakeholders where appropriate
• Managing interns and volunteers – greater role in planning for interns

Community Engagement
• Building contacts with community groups, community councils, student groups, external organisations and other stakeholders including Councillors and officials within City of Edinburgh Council
• Administration of community campaigning activity
• Organisation of events in the constituency and assisting with the organisation of MSP sponsored events in Parliament, including local surgeries and visits to Parliament

• Liaising with Scottish Parliament staff, MSPs, MPs and MEPs
• Providing briefing material research and input for speeches, Parliamentary Questions, Members’ Debates and motions where appropriate
• Drafting responses to campaign emails and general correspondence
• Carrying out duties or projects delegated by the MSP, as required
