Job 1 ) Office Manager/Senior Parliamentary Assistant
The role is very varied and duties will include:
• Responsibility for the smooth running of Ruth's Constituency and Westminster offices and managing the rest of her team
• Overseeing the diary, constituency engagement, campaigns and community development work
• Overseeing the Casework service
• Acting on behalf of the member where appropriate
• Overseeing the management of the budget
The ideal candidate will have:
• previous experience of working for an MP or in a similar environment
• at least 2 years' experience of managing staff
• organisational skills, have the ability to work to tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and have an eye for detail
• an understanding of how ICT can be used to improve office efficiency
• good communication and people skills and confident when interacting with people at all levels
• Have a good working knowledge of the Parliamentary system, Casework and key policy areas including housing, welfare benefits, Immigration and Employment Issues
• Be committed to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party and politically aware
Job 2 ) Parliamentary Assistant: to provide media, policy and admin support
The role will include:
• Ensuring Ruth is informed on the key issues of importance to her and her constituency, and ensuring that she raises key issues for her constituents appropriately in Parliament
• maintaining current knowledge of Parliamentary process
• Undertaking research
• Preparing briefing notes for debates, parliamentary questions etc
• Day to day diary management
• Casework support where needed
• Co-ordinating the media strategy by drafting content for the website, social media, newsletters and other engagement work
• Monitoring press and social media coverage
• Organise Events and special projects to develop Ruth's community engagement
The ideal candidate will have:
• excellent writing and IT skills
• strong communication and organisational skills
• research skills
• the ability to work to tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and have an eye for detail
• an understanding of community development
• a commitment to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party and be politically aware
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
