Reporting to: Executive Director.
Role description
The Director of Compliance will work in the Executive Team of the ‘In Campaign’ on all legal and regulatory aspects of the campaign. As a critical member of the team, this Director will put structures in place for the fulfilment of all its legal obligations.
The Director of Compliance will ensure that the campaign understands the legal and regulatory framework under which the ‘In Campaign’ will operate, ensure understanding and adherence to legal and regulatory obligations across the scope of operations and provide advice and challenge where required.
The Director of Compliance will have an important management role including over the fundraising team, accounting team and relationships with campaign lawyers.
Essential Experience
• Working in a political or campaign environment and exercising political judgement
• Preparing clear briefings on legal aspects of campaigns for both internal and external audiences
• Working with and advising lawyers
• Successfully managing a team, setting individual objectives and ensuring adequate performance by team members
• Being a budget holder and successfully oversight of financial arrangements
• Clearly summarising legislation, legal rulings and/or regulatory advice for a wide range of audiences
• Working in a fast-paced environment and to tight deadlines
Desirable experience
• A legal or accounting background
• Resource planning
Personal skills and attributes
• An understanding of the laws governing elections, campaigning organisations, political parties and referendums
• Knowledge of the UK political landscape surrounding the EU referendum campaign
• Excellent organisational skills
• Problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A good team player with a commitment to sharing knowledge, best-practice, and the informal development of others
• Sound judgment, effective decision-making and personal accountability
• Ability to think and plan, strategically, tactically and practically
