Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 205,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 31 adoption centres and homing centres.

Cats Protection has built up a significant level of engagement with MPs, Ministers and professional organisations “Speaking up for cats” on a range of issues affecting cat welfare.

We are seeking an energetic, innovative and highly motivated Advocacy Officer to support and expand our advocacy work and campaigns across the UK (and to a limited extent the EU).

This role will primarily focus on engaging with decision makers, whether that is National or Local government representatives, corporates or professional organisations. We are particularly looking to expand our advocacy activity within the devolved administrations and to develop regional and local campaigns.

Cats Protection has nearly 10,000 dedicated and committed volunteers who are passionate about protecting cats. Within this role, you will achieve positive change by working creatively with our branches and volunteers, as well as with external stakeholders, to collate evidence, prioritise and plan campaigns.

In order to succeed in this role, it is essential that you are educated to Degree level and have substantial relevant experience. Experience of campaigning at Westminster and in the devolved administrations will be valuable, ideally in an animal welfare context.

The role will require a solid understanding of influencing and campaigning techniques, an interest in external policy contexts and a familiarity with using social media and the press. You will be an excellent communicator with a track record of building and maintaining professional relationships. An understanding of the practicalities of delivering through volunteers will also be crucial.

Due to the location of this role, it is essential that you have access to your own transport.
