Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle Central and shadow minister for culture and the digital economy, is looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working intern to work in her Parliamentary office.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the issues important to Newcastle and the north east and share an interest in Chi’s policy portfolio and wider political interests. Good political awareness is essential, as is a decent overall understanding of current political issues. The successful applicant will be able to work independently when required and be a fast learner.

Experience in politics is not necessary, but sympathy with the aims and principles of the Labour Party are essential.

The post is full-time for 20 weeks, or four days a week for six months.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting the Parliamentary Researcher
• Carrying out research into policy issues
• Working on policy campaigns
• Monitoring local and national issues
• Supporting general office administration duties
