Job Details
Labour People is the volunteering network for Labour members with practical skills from the world beyond politics. We match MPs, peers and Labour societies with Labour supporters who can offer advice or training in areas like strategic communications, recruitment, financial management, fundraising and more. Having established our mission and structure and launched our website this year, we are now entering a new phase of our development, and would like to recruit a part-time coordinator.
This is a new role in a start-up organisation, so is an opportunity for the right candidate to play a significant role in how we grow.
The role is offered on a self-employed basis, so would suit someone with experience of freelance work, or an interest in moving into it. The coordinator will primarily work from home, with regular meetings in Parliament and central London.
Key responsibilities
• Be responsible for the day-to-day running of the network, liaising with potential clients and volunteers to organise and monitor projects.
• Work with the Labour People Founders’ Group to plan all activities, including client outreach, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising.
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders in Parliament, the Labour Party and the wider Labour movement.
• Organise meetings, including agendas and notes of actions, and manage the budget.
Person specification
• Experience of project management, ideally in a political or campaigning environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work pro-actively with a variety of stakeholders.
• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to work on own initiative, requiring minimal supervision.
• Ability to plan and monitor a budget.
• Knowledge/understanding of Parliament, and of the Labour Party and its structures.
• Willingness to be flexible, including attending meetings and networking events outside normal office hours.
• Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Closing Date: 25 May 2016
Interview/Start Dates
Interviews are likely to be held in the week commencing Tuesday 31st May, and may be in the evening.
