A new MSP to the Scottish Parliament is seeking a pro-active political aide/chief of staff/senior assistant. (the final role will depend on the person).

This senior role will incorporate a variety of functions of a busy MSP office including:

PRESS, COMMS AND PR
Managing press and PR ( websites, social media). Drafting press releases and statements, often researching facts and contents. Experience of media/PR and industry contacts highly desirable but not essential.

POLICY, PARLIAMENTARY AND RESEARCH
Research on specific policy. A keen interest or experience in the technology, media and broadcast, mobile, connectivity and digital economy sectors is also highly desirable.
Drafting speeches, parliamentary questions and motions on behalf of the MSP; a knowledge or parliamentary procedures would be helpful but not essential.
Setting up meetings with key industry players in the policy landscape of the MSP. You should be comfortable dealing with C-Level executives.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
Acting as principal adviser to the MSP on all research, campaigns, communications and casework matters;
Handling enquiries from constituents and stakeholders and drafting written correspondence, where appropriate;
Working directly with the MSP on all incoming mail, advising on relevant background, as required;
Managing constituency/parliamentary meetings;
Managing, filtering and prioritizing a very busy inbox;
A willingness to work as part of the rest of the administrative and constituency team – often helping out with administrative roles, casework or office management where required to ensure adequate cover of these functions.

OVERALL
You should have a get up and go attitude to work, be industrious, bright, creative and confident. You don’t need to know everything but be willing to learn quickly and deal with the variety and pressures of working in a political office.

Ideally this role will be based out of the Parliament office in Edinburgh 3-4 days a week but you must be comfortable with travel to the constituency office on a regular basis, accompanying the MSP on visits, meetings, trade events and general constituency work where required. At present this will likely be on the West Coast of Scotland/Ayrshire.

Will consider a part-time 3 days a week in Edinburgh only role for the right person.
