The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) is seeking to appoint a Policy & Public Affairs intern for circa 10 weeks through Summer 2016, start date and duration to be mutually agreed around applicants' other commitments.
Founded in 2001, NRAS is the only UK charity specifically devoted to supporting adults and their families living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and children, young people and their families affected by juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and the health professionals treating RA and JIA.
We take pride in the fact that everything we stand for and do is patient-led. As we look to develop new campaigns over the next few years, we are seeking to engage with our members and supporters and find out more about their stories and the impact of their disease.
We are looking for an intern to support the development of future campaigns, with a particular focus on work and RA, through Summer 2016.
Key tasks will include:
- Speaking by phone and at regional group meetings to people living with RA and JIA about the impact of their long term condition.
- Assisting in the development of a survey on work and RA as a follow up to a survey on the same subject undertaken in 2007. To include: Carrying out qualitative research including telephone interviews and a focus group to further NRAS’s understanding of work and RA; with support from NRAS’s academic contacts, leading on a literature review to provide context for this survey and understand key developments in the last 10 years.
- Supporting the preparation for three key parliamentary events taking place in Autumn 2016 including some correspondence with parliamentarians offices.
Skills required:
- An interest in health and disability issues.
- Strong organisational abilities.
- Confidence talking to a variety of people on the telephone and in meetings.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Some knowledge of UK political structures, including the devolved nations would be an advantage.
