Roles & Responsibilities

  • Devise, lead and implement the Greater London Communications and Public Affairs strategy for McDonald’s UK.
  • Strategically seek out and personally develop professional relationships with relevant MPs, members of devolved authorities, key leaders in local government, interest groups and trade bodies to further the Public Affairs objectives of the business.
  • Lead on communicating positive news about McDonald’s across Greater London through traditional PR activity and online influencer engagement. Will also involve managing dedicated agency support to assist in this area.
  • Research key policy areas based on business threats and opportunities and propose campaigns based on findings.
  • Oversee the creation of a high volume of copy, including research and strategy documents, stakeholder outreach letters, press releases and press statements.
  • Maintain good working relationship with the McDonald’s franchisee community, supporting them from a Communications perspective in the delivery of their business plan including stakeholder and media engagement.
  • Take the lead on at least one national project or annual campaign. This work will require the owner to develop strategy, engage all relevant agencies, take full responsibility to communicate with internal audiences and deliver against KPIs.
  • Support the company’s business growth plans with communications support and local engagement strategies with key Local Authorities to assist planning and licensing applications.
  • On-call national press officer duties.

Experience:

  • A knowledge of and interest in the political and media landscape of Greater London.
  • Direct experience of engaging with the media and/or elected representatives through working for an in-house team Communications function in a business and/or institution, or a Public Relations and/or a Public Affairs agency.
  • Prepared to work for a busy and fast-paced business with a broad number of policy interests.
  • Able to work with a high degree of autonomy and willing to suggest innovative ideas.
  • Comfortable working on multi-agency, cross departmental projects as well as on individual projects
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey messages to different groups of different audiences.

Interview/Start Dates

1st round of interviews will take place on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th June. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited for a second and final interview on either 21st or 22nd June. This will involve completion of a written task to be submitted ahead of the 2nd interview date.
