The National Autistic Society are the UK’s leading autism charity who work to improve the lives of people on the autism spectrum and their families. We’ve just launched our biggest public awareness campaign, Too Much Information, to transform public understanding of autism.

Are you interested in communications and media?

Our internal communication and press teams are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to help us during this exciting time for the charity, just after the launch of the UK’s biggest major public awareness campaign of autism.

The successful candidate will find stories and write copy for internal newsletters, our intranet and other internal communications. They will also help the press team by answering phones to journalists, assisting officers to write press releases and comments, and providing administrative support where required.

This is a great chance to gain experience writing copy for internal and external audiences, and learn about the day-to-day running of a busy press and internal communications team of a national charity during a major campaign.

Skills and Competences

The ideal candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and in a busy environment, often unsupervised. In addition you will have:
• Strong spoken and written communication skills
• Administrative skills including MS Office
• An interest in autism
• A good eye for interesting internal and external-facing stories
• Confident telephone manner

The internship will be a maximum of 3 days per week and will last up to 3 months (depending on your availability and other commitments).

Applications are sought from all suitably qualified sections of the community but particularly welcome from those with a diagnosis of autism or Asperger syndrome.
