Job Details

30 hours a week. 6 month contract.

To provide administrative and research support to Shabana Mahmood in her constituency office
- To research constituency issues to support communication with stakeholders and the Member’s work in Parliament
- To liaise with special interest groups in the constituency and stakeholders and respond to their enquiries
- To assist other staff research and write content for the Member's website
- To maintain the Member’s press contact database, research and draft press releases for the local press
- To keep the existing stakeholder database accurate and up to date; keep records of client contact
- To assist the member undertake street surgeries
- Undertake photocopying, scanning and formatting of documents
- Ensure office records are kept and an efficient filing system is in place and up to date
- Assess policy casework coming in via post, email, and telephone, and assist the caseworkers with their work if necessary
- Generate responses to constituents and action letters to appropriate Government bodies within the required deadline
- To answer the phone in rotation with the other caseworkers
- To organise regular coffee mornings and other community activities
- To attend advice surgeries when required

Skills and experience
- To be competent in using Microsoft Office, email and internet
- Excellent organisational skills
- Awareness and understanding of current political issues
- experience of html would be an advantage

The successful applicant will receive training and support.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
