Organisation Background
The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is a small but dynamic charity set up in 2001 to promote British values and integration among the refugee community.

Our services include English classes, mentoring, drop-in advice sessions, legal surgery, employment training and prevent counter-extremism workshops. We aim to empower the refugee community by providing access to information and training to ensure they can actively participate in mainstream society.

In 2013, ACAA received its first international grant from DFID to launch two Citizens Advice Centres in Afghanistan which offer free legal advice to vulnerable members of the community.

Role Overview
The Volunteer Director’s Assistant role is a challenging but exciting voluntary position for anyone wishing to improve their management and leadership skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of the charity and NGO sector.

Duties
- Writing job descriptions for volunteering roles as well as upcoming paid positions
- Recruiting, interviewing and managing volunteers together with the Director
- Devising tasks and assigning them to volunteers
- Lobbying the charity’s activities and services to the government, MPs, think tanks and large organisations to raise awareness and attention
- Increasing media coverage of the charity on a local and national level
- Fundraising to secure grants for the continuation of projects both in the UK and in Afghanistan and working together with the director on funding applications through proofreading, drafting answers and making appropriate modifications
- Holding meetings in the office at least once every fortnight with volunteers and interns to receive updates on their progress
- Drafting replies to emails and carrying out general administration

Key Skills
We want to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Director’s Assistant, who has an interest in our charity’s objectives, strategy and services.The key requirements of the volunteer Director Assistant we are looking for consist of:
- Possess experience of management or programme coordination
- Awareness of charity policies/structure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work towards designated deadlines
- Teamworking skills
- Fundraising experience
- Interest in charity sector, refugee issues and current affairs

The hours for this role are flexible. Ideally 2/3 days per week.
