The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sudan and South Sudan is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to help the group for 1 day a week. The volunteer will assist in monitoring the situation in Sudan and South Sudan and specifically working alongside the Coordinator in an upcoming inquiry into UK-Sudan relations.

The role will suit someone looking for practical experience in research, political campaigning, conflict mitigation, conflict analysis, reconciliation, peacebuilding or international development.

The volunteer may be asked to assist in the following ways:
• Monitoring news reports and parliamentary activity on the situation in the Sudans
• Drafting analysis of the situation in the Sudans
• Meeting relevant stakeholders and incorporating feedback into the design of project activities
• Drafting parliamentary questions pertaining to the Sudans
• Assisting with the practical organisation of parliamentary hearings on the Sudans
• Assisting in the collation of written and oral evidence for an upcoming APPG inquiry

Suitable candidate - This role may suit someone with excellent research skills who is able to process large amounts of information in a short time period. You may have a degree in a political science, international development, conflict or communications or be a student studying a relevant subject at graduate level. No prior knowledge of the Sudans is necessary though it is desirable. A demonstrable interest in the region or relevant issues will be expected.

This position is based in Westminster but flexible working will be possible. For example, it will be possible to work from home with a weekly meeting in Westminster.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sudan and South Sudan is an all-party political pressure group that seeks to influence the UK Government’s policy and practice by promoting the cause of peace, human rights, justice and development for all the people of Sudan and South Sudan across the political spectrum in Westminster and Whitehall.

Based in Westminster, the Group has established a growing membership of nearly 100 British MPs and Peers across political parties. Since its inception in 1998 the group has acted as the key forum in Parliament for actively debating and highlighting key issues.
