Job Details

IDEA is looking for coaches to give a couple of hours of their time a week to help start debate clubs in colleges and schools in London. We aim to develop young people's critical thinking, creative thinking, public speaking, self esteem, and confidence through debate. The programme aims to be inclusive and enjoyable using exercises and debate games to keep it fun and engaging.

We hope that you will be one of those to help us deliver this programme. Our volunteers can be both those with debating experience and those who are simply interested in learning more about debate -  we provide training before you work with any of the debate clubs. Additionally we will provide plenty of support and aim for there to be at least two people working with each club.

Aim:

  • Training young people in a debate club once a week (approximately two hours - most likely on Wednesday afternoons).
  • Once a month the training will be replaced with a Debate with another of the clubs.
  • Helping organise and run the club.
  • If desired aiding with programme and curriculum development.

What is in it for you:

  • That warm fuzzy feeling you get when doing something to help others.
  • Personal development; you will have responsibilities running the club.
  • Learning about debating and teaching debate.

IDEA UK is a charity, reg number 1139452, that focuses on providing young people with the opportunity to develop advocacy and employability skills enabling them to be active, open, tolerant citizens in the 21st century.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish.
