An exciting opportunity to gain work experience fundraising for an established international NGO; and to learn about an intergovernmental organisation.

The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) is an independent, non-partisan international NGO, established in 1987, working for the practical realisation of human rights across the Commonwealth. CHRI is headquartered in Delhi, with an office in London responsible for liaison with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Human Rights advocacy.

Role Description: The successful candidate will support the operations and day to day running of a small office.

The work will be varied, but tailored to meet individual skills and interests, potentially covering:
• Research
• Public affairs
• Event organisation, including CHRI’s human rights debate series
• Contributing to advocacy work including research and writing for papers, articles and reports
• Financial record keeping and general office administration including filing of returns to the Charity Commission and Companies House
• Secretarial support for quarterly meetings of the London Executive Committee
• Maintenance of CHRI’s contact database, liaison with potential donors and supporters
• Preparing fundraising material and writing funding applications
• Assisting with the maintenance of CHRI’s website and online fundraising channels

Person Specification:
• Demonstrable interest in human rights or development policy and advocacy in the NGO/inter-governmental sector
• A self starter able to work with minimal supervision
• Familiarity with MS Office software and good word-processing skills
• Flexible collegiate style enjoying working in a small team
• Ability to deal with competing demands, multiple priorities and time constraints
• Excellent written and spoken English including with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

The ideal candidate should be above all flexible and creative and have a strong interest in human rights. Previous interns have typically been pursuing or recently graduating from graduate/post-graduate level studies in human rights, international development, international relations or law related subjects.
