Job Details

Organisation Background
The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is a small but dynamic charity set up in 2001 to promote British values and integration among the refugee community. Our services include English classes, mentoring, drop-in advice sessions, legal surgery, employment training and prevent counter-extremism workshops. In 2013, ACAA received its first international grant from DFID to launch two Citizens Advice Centres in Afghanistan which offer free legal advice to vulnerable members of the community, promoting the rule of law and increasing access to justice.

Main Duties
- Contacting DFID/UKAID Central Asia and other similar organisations operating in the area to enquire about the possibility of applying for funds to develop and expand ACAA's work in the region and achieve its overarching aim of promoting democracy, human rights and economic empowerment in Central Asian countries.
- Researching about DFID’s priorities, objectives and operational plans in Central Asia to find out more about the kind of activities DFID is currently implementing in the region as well as their future plans. This will help the ACAA formulate and develop relevant project ideas that correlate to DFID’s vision and mission in that region.
- Developing partnership with DFID to secure the status of an implementing agency or partner in Central Asia where the ACAA could contribute towards the fulfilment of DFID's objectives and goals in that region.
- Working on the potential expansion and growth of our Citizens Advice Centres that have been funded by DFID for the past three years to other Central Asian nations.
- Establishing a Central Asia studies group in collaboration with think tanks and organisations such as Human Rights Watch or Amnesty International to create a platform to discuss issues such as the human rights situation, economic development and political and religious freedom of Central Asian citizens.
- Contacting British organisations, political figures and academics who have an interest in Central Asia to discuss strategic ideas and plans on how to expand the work of the ACAA in Central Asia, considering the cultural, linguistic and social similarities between Afghanistan and its Central Asian neighbours.
