Pro Bono Economics helps charities and social enterprises understand the impact and value of their work. We match highly skilled professional volunteers with charities that need their expertise. Since 2009, PBE has engaged with almost 300 charities and given over 300 economists volunteering opportunities. From 2016 and beyond, PBE is looking to broaden and deepen its scope to increase the number of individual charities it works with, whilst communicating the knowledge it has accumulated over the past seven years to the third sector as a whole. The intern will support the work of the Fundraising and Communications Officer in producing online and offline content (as well as events) to boost the profile of PBE with key audiences.

Tasks
• Developing case studies for print materials and our new website
• Help to populate new website (to be launched October/November)
• Write summaries of reports and press releases
• Find relevant news articles that can be shared on social media
• Drafting letters to funders and applications to trusts and foundations
• Supporting on events
• Any other tasks and duties that can be reasonably expected given the scope of the role

Key skills
• Strong writing skills (essential)
• Ability to summarise academic text into concise prose/bullet points (essential)
• Ability to work independently on tasks (essential)
• Basic understanding of economics and the charity sector (desirable)
• Basic understanding of websites (desirable)

What will you learn?
• First hand experience of how charities work and the challenges they face
• First hand experience of fundraising, communications and PR functions within a small charity
• The importance of research, economic analysis and impact in the charity sector
• How to work independently and efficiently
• How to transfer academic skills to the workplace

This position is unpaid, 2-3 days per week. PBE will pay travel expenses (London zones 1-6) and up to £5 daily for lunch.
