Job Details

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD, charity number 1076660) is looking for a volunteer to join our busy international think tank on a part-time basis. The right candidates will be able to commit to three to four days per week over a period of six months.

ISD welcomes volunteers who would like to be part of a dynamic, growing international organisation committed to countering extremism. Candidates will work closely with members of staff on meaningful and interesting aspects of our work.

The project we are currently recruiting for is Extreme Dialogue www.extremedialogue.org, a unique series of films and educational resources that aim to reduce the appeal of extremism among young people. By offering a positive alternative to extremist material and propaganda increasingly available online, Extreme Dialogue provides tools for teachers, youth and community workers, helping them to promote active discussions and develop critical thinking skills among young people. The project spans North America and Europe, with upcoming launches in Germany and Hungary in Autumn 2016.

Person specification

Essential
• An interest in countering violent extremism and the work of ISD
• Strong verbal and written communications skills, with excellent attention to detail
• A good team player, with flexibility, enthusiasm, imagination and a ‘can do’ attitude

Desired
• Previous experience in educational/youth-orientated contexts
• Previous experience managing social media (including advertising)
• Previous experience creating, managing, and/or editing websites (Wordpress)
• Additional languages an asset (particularly German or Hungarian)

The primary value of volunteering with ISD is the contribution candidates make to our vital work to combat extremism. To make sure our volunteers benefit from spending their time with ISD as much as the charity does, ISD is committed to supporting volunteers through a structured personal development programme aimed at encouraging professional and personal growth.
