The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) is looking for a Research and Strategic Development volunteer with specialism in the Middle East to join our international think tank on a part-time basis. ISD welcomes applications from prospective volunteers who would like to be part of a dynamic international organisation committed to countering extremism by working on a number of strategic programs within the organisation.

This position is ideally suited to graduate or post-graduate (Masters) level in politics/communications, security studies or Middle Eastern politics. Candidates must have advanced Arabic skills in reading, speaking and writing.

The role offers a valuable opportunity for a candidate looking to gain experience in the day-to-day running of a cross-sector, multi-national initiative with a focus on both the research and practical sides of delivering CVE and PVE programs. Additionally, the role will also involve working on ISD’s strategic development, including strategic communications programs and donor and philanthropic development.

The prospective candidate will be able to commit to 3 – 4 days a week over a period of 6 months. The volunteer will be expected to handle sensitive information and work well as part of a small team.

Core Requirements:
• A Masters and/or good Bachelor’s degree in Middle East, Politics, Strategic Communications and Security related fields
• Fluency in Arabic (spoken, written, reading). Additional languages a bonus
• Previous work experience in security, government and/or project management
• Strong research skills and a keen interest and understanding of the Middle East
• A key interest in CVE, PVE and other related subject areas
• Strong communication skills, ability to interact comfortably with senior stakeholders
• Attention to detail and good project management skills
• Competencies with online/tech tools a bonus
• A background in Business Development a bonus
