Job Details

The Academy of Medical Sciences works to ensure advances in medical science are translated into benefits for society. Working with our elected Fellowship of 1200 of the UK’s most talented biomedical and health researchers, we promote excellence in research, nurture the next generation of researchers, and bring academia, industry and healthcare together to accelerate translation. Our prestige and influence allow us to have a transformative impact on research and policy– and you will build on our success.

From basic research through clinical application to healthcare delivery, the Academy of Medical Sciences champions innovation and transforms patient outcomes. We enjoy a prominent and influential national profile and have significant impact on UK health and science policy.

Supporting major projects and initiatives, you will assist us in achieving our key policy objectives of improving health and wealth and nurturing the next generation. To this end, you will scope, implement, monitor and report on substantial programmes of activity, including analysing data, seeking expert opinion, convening experts and drafting influential outputs. This will involve extensive interaction with our Fellows and senior stakeholders in government, industry and academia, so you will need excellent networking and relationship building skills as well as an extremely organised and methodical approach.

Previous experience in a policy environment would naturally be useful. You will possess a good science degree, broad understanding of medical research and biomedical careers, and strong interest in current medical science policy issues. Needless to say, you will be motivated and resourceful, with proven ability to plan and prioritise your workload, manage complex projects to a successful conclusion and get the most from both budgets and people. Most importantly, you will be a true self-starter who can really make things happen – and make a measurable impact on UK medical and scientific policy.
