Job Details

The Academy of Medical Sciences works to ensure advances in medical science are translated into benefits for society. Working with our elected Fellowship of 1200 of the UK’s most talented biomedical and health researchers, we promote excellence in research, nurture the next generation of researchers, and bring academia, industry and healthcare together to accelerate translation. Our prestige and influence allow us to have a transformative impact on research and policy– and you will build on this success.

You will lead the Academy's work to inform and influence the funding and organisation of the UK's biomedical research base. A current focus is the Higher Education and Research Bill and minimising the negative impact on research of the UK's exit from the EU. This role will involve close engagement with our Fellows, partner organisations, Government and Parliamentarians. Operating both reactively and proactively, you will develop briefing papers, position statements and consultation responses, organise lectures and events.

A sound understanding of the medical research ecosystem and experience of working in a policy environment are essential. You must be able to develop an effective network of contacts and work successfully in partnership with other organisations. The ability to draft influential policy documents and identify opportunities for the Academy to maximise its impact will be crucial. You will be able to operate flexibly in a small organisation, and show the commitment and initiative to make a real difference.
