Working For: Thangam Debbonaire MP (Bristol West)

Location: Bristol

Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 pro rata (20 hours per week)

Length of Contract:

Job Details

Thangam Debbonaire wants to recruit a part-time caseworker to join her very busy constituency team in central Bristol. The caseworker will job-share with a senior caseworker (who will also act as line-manager) and will help the whole team provide an excellent service to Bristol West constituents. Ideally the 20 hours will involve 7.5 hours on Monday and Tuesday, and 5 hours on Wednesday, as worked by the current post holder, but there may be some flexibility.

A successful candidate will have good experience within a casework, advocacy, or advice role; an excellent standard of customer service; a willingness to learn and work as a team; and a good sense of humour. Excellent written English and a professional telephone manner are also important. This position will involve attending occasional constituency surgeries on Saturdays – the current caseworker works on one Saturday morning every other month, with time off in lieu.

Key responsibilities
• Provide information, advice and support to constituents on a range of issues, including housing, immigration and health.
• Liaise with government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve these casework matters.
• Write letters and emails to constituents.
• Offer casework appointments to constituents as required, and attend surgeries and meetings with the MP as appropriate.
• Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports, so that the MP is accurately informed about key issues.
• Retain records and information confidentially, and in line with the Data Protection Act.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 11 January 2017

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will take place on 18 January 2017 in Bristol. The successful candidate will be encouraged to join the team as soon as possible after this date.
