Job Details

The external affairs team at the BBA is a talented, sociable and dynamic team. The team is made up of 13 people and as such, we are the largest team in the organisation. We have a strong mix of domestic and international backgrounds and speak 6 languages between us. The team encompasses the following functions: press office, website and publications; UK government affairs and EU affairs. We have regular and direct exposure to the CEO as we play a key part in helping to deliver the BBA’s key priorities. We are often likened to the ‘glue’ between the other teams of the BBA as a big part of our role is shining a light on the excellent policy work that colleagues produce, which we then turn into materials to use for advocacy or communications.

The team ethos is one of service: service to one another (we may be the largest team but when one part of the team is under pressure, we all muck in to help out); service to our colleagues (we help provide briefing materials for media interviews and support messages in policy documents landing in the best way with stakeholders); and most importantly, service to our members (everything we do ultimately must be of value to those we represent every day and a big emphasis culturally in the team is given to ‘member satisfaction’).

Main functions of job (Note: In addition to these functions, the post holder will be required to carry out other duties as may reasonably be required).

The media relations team is made up of three people – The Director of Media Relations, the Media Relations Manager and the Press Officer. The team sits alongside and works closely with the UK government affairs, EU affairs and website teams. All team members are expected to be flexible and nimble in supporting other parts of the external affairs team when needed. The post holder will therefore have plenty of opportunities to learn and develop beyond their brief, keeping the role varied and interesting. The role also offers significant opportunity for exposure to senior members within the banking industry.

We encourage applications from ethnic minorities and returners to work.
