The position will be a six-month full-time parliamentary internship in the European Parliament. The successful candidate will work in Brussels within my team, taking on administrative tasks as well as providing support on the preparation of speeches and articles, research and help in the organising of events.

The role can be challenging but is highly rewarding, as you will be working at the heart of European decision-making at a critical time.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have at least a 2.1 degree or be on a “year abroad” of an appropriate undergraduate course
  • Be sympathetic to the values of the Conservative party and have a keen interest in politics
  • Be a native English speaker or speak English fluently
  • Be over 18
  • Not have previously been an MEP’s Parliamentary Assistant and have a valid permit to stay in the EU or be an EU citizen

The candidate should have the following:

  • Good organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and to meet challenging deadlines
  • The ability to keep in mind the big picture issues whilst having an excellent eye for detail
  • Be a team player with strong inter-personal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • The ability to work quickly and efficiently in a sensitive and confidential manner
  • Competent IT skills
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm are vital
  • An interest of European political institutions is desirable but not essential

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing briefings on a broad range of different issues
  • Helping to manage the busy Brussels/Strasbourg/UK diary
  • Researching and drafting responses to constituent enquiries
  • Monitoring relevant political developments
  • Ensuring workload deadlines are met in a timely and efficient fashion
  • Assisting the team with writing speeches

Interviews will commence early February.
Start Dates: as soon as possible but latest would be mid-March.
