3 month fixed-term contract (with possibility of extension in an ongoing communications support role pending review of performance and Labour Group spending priorities).

Trafford Labour Group is the main opposition Party on Trafford Council. Currently consisting of 25 Labour cllrs our main priority is to serve residents across Trafford, one of Greater Manchester’s 10 metropolitan boroughs.

We are currently looking to recruit the expertise of a suitably experienced individual to undertake a review of our online presence with a view to improving our website and social media presence. This will include creating a new website for the local Party, utilising Nationbuilder software.

The successful candidate will be responsible for improving all aspects of our online communications. Hours can be worked flexibly but would include a one hour face to face meeting each week with the Labour Group Leader to discuss progress and actions required. This would take place on a Friday afternoon, or in the evening/at weekends. Otherwise the role would be home-based, utilising your own computer and equipment. Some travel may be required to train Members in the use of Nationbuilder and social media, if required. If the successful candidate were able to do so, some support with the design and generation of written materials (i.e. leaflets/press releases) would also be welcomed.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a complete overhaul of communications for a busy local Labour Party. A person specification is set out below, to assist candidates:

Experience of drafting online communications and communicating messages through websites/social media
Experience of using a content management system (eg. Nationbuilder, Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, etc)
Demonstrable commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party
Ability to work from home, using own computer system/wifi
An understanding of the need for consistent messaging in political campaigning

Desirable
Experience of using the web/social media for political campaigning
Specific experience of using the Nationbuilder package
Ability to train others to use web design tools/social media
Ability to design leaflets and other written materials which may include press releases
An understanding of the value of using paid online advertising and/or the opportunities presented by this
