Job Details

An exciting opportunity to gain experience within women’s health policy as a Special Adviser to Professor Lesley Regan, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).

Professor Regan took up office as President in September 2016, for a three-year term. Against the backdrop of the NHS Five-Year Forward View, this is a period of exceptional change and opportunity for the RCOG and women’s health, including the implementation of the Maternity Transformation Programme, the RCOG’s focus on workforce intelligence, and the need for reconfiguration of services.

One of Professor Regan’s goals for her Presidency is a desire for significant improvement in the RCOG’s ability to influence women’s health policy. We are therefore looking to appoint a Special Advisor to the RCOG President to help us explore opportunities, establish priorities and support the President with briefings, research, liaison with MPs/Special Advisers/civil servants/APPGs, etc. This position is offered on a fixed-term 6-9-month contract.

Reporting to the Executive Director of External Affairs but work to the RCOG President. Based near Baker Street and desk space will be provided, but it is anticipated that the post-holder will spend much of their time in Westminster. A House of Commons pass will be provided by the RCOG.

The successful applicant will have experience as a researcher or assistant to an MP, or similar, experience of working in health policy, and a good understanding of the UK political landscape and of Parliamentary procedures. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to conduct independent research on a range of issues, be able to use your initiative and work under pressure, and be able to prioritise projects and work to tight deadlines.

The RCOG is a professional membership association dedicated to delivering the highest standards of training and education in the medical specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology, and advocating for women’s health. Located in pleasant offices overlooking Regent’s Park, the RCOG offers an excellent and supportive working environment with a package that includes flexible working hours, free lunch, subsidised gym membership, season ticket loan, pension scheme and excellent annual leave entitlement.
