This role is an opportunity to work in a highly regarded think tank at the heart of Westminster. It is a great chance for an experienced communications professional to join a friendly and busy team.

The Head of Communications will help IfG achieve its communications objective of being seen as the ‘go-to place’ on issues relating to the effective working of government. They will help develop and deliver a communication plan that will enhance the IfG’s reputation as a world-leading voice and expert in effective government.

Reports to: Director of Communications & Marketing.

Key tasks
Assist the Director of Communications & Marketing by coordinating the marketing of the IfG’s events and publications, working within the Communications & Marketing team. Develop our messages so that they work for all our communication channels and expand our reach nationally and internationally. Update the news planning grid with key events from around Westminster, advising on a strategic schedule of events and publications. Keep on top of the stories affecting Whitehall and Westminster, helping identify how the IfG’s work plays into current debates and advising the senior management team and researchers on media related issues, day to day, with the guidance of the Director of Communications & Marketing. Help researchers write articles for press, journals and other outlets. Ensure the IfG homepage and social media channels are updated daily to showcase our work. Work with Head of Publications to track and evaluate our web analytics and coverage to inform content development and placement. Map, define and develop our audiences, working with Directors and the Communications & Marketing team. Maintain our database of contacts and take responsibility for developing its functionality as appropriate, working with the Head of Publications. Manage the production and content of our newsletter, working with the Head of Publications to identify the stories that our audience will want to hear. Work with the Head of Publications to ensure the Institute’s brand and house style are adhered to across all of our outputs. Attend Institute events, including early mornings and evenings, and advise on audio/video/visual content to support the promotion of those events. Other tasks as identified by the Director of Communications & Marketing.
