Job Details

Full-time, permanent.

The Trussell Trust is a fast-paced national charity at the frontline of tackling UK poverty. We run a network of foodbanks across the UK, which bring communities together to end hunger and poverty by providing compassionate practical help, whilst working to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and challenge injustice.

The Media & External Affairs team challenges injustice by raising awareness of the reality of hunger and poverty through the media, engaging policy and decision makers at all levels of government across the UK, and undertaking vital research to shed more light on why people face hunger today and how we can stop more people going hungry.

About this role:
We are looking for an experienced, strategic media and policy professional with an excellent understanding of the media landscape of UK social affairs (politics and poverty) and other consumer media with a proven background in engaging and influencing media and policy makers to:
• Manage media, public affairs and research projects across the department and provide clear direction and achievable objectives in developing and delivering the charity’s external affairs strategy
• Shape how we relate to stakeholders across the media and political spectrum in line with our strategy to stop UK hunger
• Identify reputational risks and act in the interest of the charity to avoid, or where necessary, counter them effectively
• Contribute to the wider development of The Trussell Trust as part of the senior management team

About you
You will be passionate about ending hunger and poverty in the UK by challenging injustice, raising awareness, and engaging with researchers and policy-makers to find solutions. You will have a track record of strong media and public affairs work, and be able to lead and develop a dynamic, close-knit, fast-paced team. You will be a meticulous planner, excellent communicator and creative problem solver.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you as we work together to stop UK hunger.
