Job Title: Senior Adviser Open and Pre-Open Team

Key responsibilities
Within this role, you would work independently and as part of a small team to:
— Act as the dedicated adviser to a number of free school proposer groups in helping them to open their schools successfully
— Provide quick and accurate advice for schools via phone and email, or refer them to the appropriate advice and support within NSN
— Develop good relationships and partnerships between NSN, free schools, civil servants, local authorities and the wider education sector
— Advise schools on how best to navigate complicated issues relating to buildings and sites
— Advise open schools on their growth, including possible partnerships with other schools or multi-academy trusts
— Design and organise training events and networking opportunities for free school leaders
— Research, edit and contribute to guidance and resources for free schools
— Contribute to NSN’s campaigns work by highlighting examples of the positive impact free schools are having
— Work up and evaluate proposals for commercial services
— Help to develop the strategy of the Team

Candidates for this role will need to demonstrate the following:
— A strong academic record
— Excellent organisational skills, including a mastery of detail
— Outstanding communication skills, including written communication, in a variety of formats
— The ability to master a complicated brief quickly and give accurate advice relating to that brief
— Good interpersonal and networking skills
— The ability to spot emerging problems facing new and growing schools and multi-academy trusts and the initiative to come up with solutions
— An understanding of the curriculum, funding and regulatory challenges facing school leaders
— Discretion and responsibility when handling sensitive information
— Support for, and understanding of, the free school policy

Particular expertise or experience in any of the following will be an advantage:
— Working in role that required interaction with school leaders and/or marketing to schools or more widely in the education sector
— Governance of schools or multi-academy trusts
— Complicated site and planning issues facing schools or similar institutions
— Building and maintaining effective networks between organisations and individuals
