Job Details

In light of Brexit, the Policy and Research Directorate of Rail Delivery Group (RDG) is looking to expand its European team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate with an interest in European policy to support a busy team to deliver Rail Delivery Group’s European strategy.

The RDG exists to enable rail companies to succeed in transforming and delivering a successful railway. Rail plays an ever more crucial role in Britain, with long term growth in passengers and freight. RDG brings together all passenger and freight operators with Network Rail and HS2, providing services and support to enable them to succeed by delivering better services for their customers. This ultimately benefits taxpayers and the economy.

RDG’s European Affairs Team’s vision is to be recognised by members as a highly-knowledgeable team delivering value-added for their businesses and to have the credibility in Europe and internationally to deliver the positive narrative of GB rail in order to effectively influence future policy direction and exploit opportunities for members.

The European Affairs Assistant will:

  • Coordinate and arrange overseas delegations
  • Provide administrative support to key meetings within RDG including the EU Policy and Engagement Forum and the EU Internal Coordination Group
  • Maintain and improve trackers used by the team
  • Provide monitoring support
  • Produce clear member communications including the weekly newsletter
  • Support the production of internal reports
  • Maintaining database of comparative statistics on rail performance in the EU

This is an entry-level or new graduate role, requiring the candidate to undertake administrative and organisational tasks. However, the team is committed to supporting a high-calibre candidate to develop and, based on performance, give opportunities to take on more challenging tasks. As part of this development, some occasional travel to Europe may be required.

Any offer will be made on the basis of a fixed-term contract of 9 to 12 months.

Closing Date: 22 March 2017

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will take place as soon as possible after the closing date but are likely to be on Monday 27 March, Friday 31 March and/or 3 April.
