Job Details

ONS statistics such as GDP, inflation and migration frequently drive the news and political agenda. Our statistics are in the news virtually every day, and our stakeholders include Government departments, private businesses, academics, think tanks and inquiring citizens.

We have two vacancies in our Insight and Engagement team to support our external affairs and insight functions.

You will be a member of the Government Communications Service (GCS), which will give you access to training, networking and other professional development opportunities as part of a Government-wide community of professional communicators.

Role one - External Affairs Manager (London)
As the External Affairs Manager with specific responsibility for economic statistics, you will be responsible for helping ONS communicate and engage with external audiences on a broad range of economic and financial issues. This will include issues such as international trade, inflation, public sector finances and productivity.

You will play an active role in identifying and managing risks and opportunities which may impact ONS’s reputation, and will oversee the management and delivery of communication strategies and plans to support organisational objectives.

You will provide advice and challenge to internal colleagues, ensuring that both stakeholder needs and reputational risks are considered. And you will work with media relations, internal communications and other colleagues to deliver integrated communications support to the organisation.

Role two - External Affairs and Insight Manager (London or Newport)
As External Affairs and Insight Manager, you’ll help to lead our central external affairs and user insight functions, providing insight and intelligence on the wider government policy and stakeholder environments, and developing and implementing proposals to help ONS better understand and engage with external audiences and developments.

You will actively keep abreast of external developments, ensuring that we proactively respond to both risks and opportunities, and work across the organisation to ensure communication activities are joined-up.
