The Policy Department at NUS is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and innovative candidate who can help us to support our membership, influence government and make lasting change for students.

The Policy Department within NUS influences national policy debate by supporting our student leader’s influence through external partnerships, engagement of students and students’ unions and analysing of students’ interests in order to ensure NUS is valued, respected and influential in shaping national and institutional policy development.

The Policy Officer will provide policy and administrative support across a team that covers a broad range of post-16 education and social policy issues. The post-holder will also deliver a range of influential and engaging policy projects involving students, students’ unions, the sector and government. We particularly welcome applicants with experience of policy or advocacy work in racial equality campaigns.

We are looking for a team-player who shares our passion for the transformative power of education and our commitment to social change and social justice. You should have experience of working in a policy environment where you have demonstrable experience of influencing external stakeholders. You should be able to analyze and present complex data and information in a way that is accessible to our membership, whilst in keeping with the values of the organisation.

Strong people and organisational skills, as well as an innovative approach to facilitation and policy engagement are key to working effectively with our membership. Being politically astute and committed to the transformative impact of education are key to working within NUS and the sector.
