Background to the project
In April 2016, we launched a joint project with the United Nations Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate (UN CTED) entitled: “Private Sector Engagement in Responding to Terrorist Use of the Internet and Technology.” The aim of this project is principally to bridge between business and government.

As we launch Phase II we are seeking to hire at least one additional full-time Research Assistant to work from our London office. The successful candidate will work alongside the Project Director at ICT4Peace as well as colleagues at UN CTED and other organisations.

The focus of Phase II is to act as a bridge between technology companies and governments concerning countering the use of technology by terrorists. Also we are keen to consult widely with civil society and academia. The two major workstreams in 2017-2018 will focus on capacity building for startups and confidence building for States. The objective is to establish a series of Knowledge Networks and leverage these to build an online Knowledge Sharing Platform to inform emerging best practice. 

Details of the role

  • Help organise a series of international conferences and workshops
  • Support the team in writing reports and recommendations
  • Write content for our Knowledge Sharing Platform and collect requirements from stakeholders
  • Support the development of the Knowledge Sharing Platform and associated tools

Candidate requirements
The ideal candidate will have recently completed a post-graduate programme in War Studies, Politics, International Security, Counter-Terrorism or have demonstrable experience/interest in the field of technology and counter-terrorism. You will have strong organisational skills and will work well in small, focussed teams with responsibility. The successful candidate will be creative, accustomed to taking the initiative and working independently. She/he will have an excellent command of English. Other core UN languages are an advantage especially Russian and Arabic.
