Job Details

Full-time.

Looking for an opportunity to develop your all-round communication skills? Keen to work in the fast-moving world of politics? Want to work on innovative social media campaigns? Then now is an exciting time to join the Electoral Commission’s Communications department.

The Commission will shortly be publishing the outcome of its Strategic Review and new Corporate Plan. These will inform our priorities for the years ahead, such as examining how the electoral system can be modernised with the introduction of early voting; or being able to register and vote on polling day itself – both of which are possible in the USA.

We are looking for a skilled Communications Officer to help deliver a variety of projects. Activities will include writing press releases and parliamentary briefings; promoting the Commission’s work digitally; and using your skills and knowledge to support the work of different departments across the Commission.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and in addition to their press and public affairs responsibilities, will support the day to day administration of the team as well as building and maintaining relationships with partner organisations to assist our work in promoting voter registration.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about all areas of the Commission’s work. From its regulation of political finance to how it works with Electoral Registration Officers at local authorities. They will also learn about how the Commission operates in the devolved nations and its accountabilities to parliaments and assemblies.

We offer excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements (dependant on scheme rules). We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Closing Date: 10 April 2017
