Sir Steve Bullock, the directly elected Labour Mayor of Lewisham, is looking for a Political Assistant to support him directly during the final twelve months of his mayoralty.

It is a time of profound political uncertainty, with national and local decision makers grappling to respond to Brexit, the refugee crisis and the continuing financial pressures that local authorities face.

In Lewisham, the Mayor has already announced that he will be standing down at the next election in May 2018. His priority in his final twelve months will be to continue delivering his agenda in this complex environment and he would like to appoint a Political Assistant to work closely with him to support those goals.

We are looking for someone who is resilient and adaptable, with experience working in politics and government. They will have a detailed knowledge of the current issues facing local authorities in London and a proven record of providing advice and building relationships at a senior level.

The successful candidate should have outstanding communication skills, and be able to manage the Mayor’s social media profile, political media relations, and his website. They will also be comfortable working closely with the Cabinet, Labour Group, and local, regional and national Labour Party. Discretion and confidentiality is essential.

This post is temporary until May 2018. It is politically restricted and will be offered in line with current legislation governing Political Assistant Posts. Hours can be flexible for the right candidate.
