The Role
We are a politically-led organisation and are looking for a senior professional adviser to head up our Labour Group Office. You will work in a high-pressure environment, advising and supporting the Labour group leader, planning and overseeing the delivery of support to councillors and managing the office. You will manage a team of three staff, working on a daily basis with councillors, Ministers, MPs and other senior politicians on a range of issues of importance to Local Government. You will also sit on the LGA’s Corporate Leadership Team.

Based in the LGA’s offices in central London, you will have demonstrable experience of working in a political environment, managing a team of staff and providing support services, and an understanding of public policy work and parliamentary procedures. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and a very high degree of political sensitivity.

You must be a current member of the Labour Party.

About us
The Local Government Association speaks with one voice on behalf of local government in England and Wales. Made up of elected representatives from all the different political parties, we aim to set the political agenda and have our say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members. There has never been a more exciting time to work for us.

The LGA's registered and primary place of work is Local Government House, Smith Square. Due to the refurbishment of this building the LGA will be at Layden House, Farringdon (zone 1) for a period of up to 12 months from November 2016.
