The British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA), a leading trade body organisation representing the interests of the UK toy industry both nationally and on the world stage, is looking for an enthusiastic Public Affairs Intern. This is an excellent development opportunity for a high calibre graduate interested in gaining experience in public affairs, advocacy and communications.
The BTHA
The Association exists to represent and promote the interests of British toy manufacturers and to raise standards of practice in the industry. At present, it has around 130 members ranging from international toy companies to small family-run businesses that together account for around 85% of the UK toy market. Membership of the British Toy & Hobby Association shows the member’s commitment to adhere to the BTHA Code of Practice under the umbrella of the Lion Mark. Our members are manufacturers committed to making good quality toys in a responsible way.
The Role
As a Public Affairs Intern, you will report directly into the Public Affairs Manager to support the public affairs and advocacy work of the BTHA during a critical time for industry as Brexit negotiations get underway.
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Supporting the work of the Public Affairs Manager and Director of Public Affairs and Communications as key public affairs opportunities or threats arise
- Monitoring, understanding and evaluating discussions in Westminster, Whitehall, the media, think tanks, NGOs and other bodies on issues and developments of relevance to the toy industry
- Communicating and building up relations with BTHA members and external stakeholders
- Helping to build the BTHA’s political network across Westminster and Whitehall
- Writing regular Brexit briefings for BTHA members
- Assisting the co-ordination of a Westminster event
Educated to degree level, you will have already developed a keen interest and understanding of public policy within the UK. Ability to understand and present data will be essential along with excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience of working within a public affairs or communications environment would be advantageous but is not essential. Most important is a strong desire to build on your current capabilities in a busy in-house public affairs team.
6-month fixed term basis.
