Job Details

David Drew wants to recruit a Senior Caseworker for his office in Stroud. The post would suit someone accustomed to working with the public and providing help and advice on a range of issues. Excellent administrative and IT skills, a resilient nature, and a collegiate approach to working are essential.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Deal with standard enquiries from members of the public
  • Develop and maintain a casework system ensuring all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • Provide information, advice and support to constituents on a range of issues, including housing, financial issues, immigration and health, through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and other organisations in order to resolve matters
  • Write letters and emails to constituents as required
  • Offer casework appointments to constituents as required, and attend surgeries, tribunals and meetings with the MP as appropriate
  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports, so that the MP is accurately informed about key issues, and develop knowledge in specialist areas
  • Ensure cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner, adhering to the Data Protection Act principles and respecting the confidentiality of data at all times.

Person Specification

  • Ideally the candidate should have substantial experience within a casework, advocacy, or advice and guidance role.
  • The ability to deal with casework and research, work to tight deadlines and pay keen attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent administrative and IT skills
  • Empathic, tactful and sensitive when dealing with constituent enquiries
  • The ability to prioritise workload and work to strict deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a range of people in sometimes challenging situations.
  • A driving licence is desirable
  • Local knowledge is desirable
  • Candidates must be able to show a commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party. Party membership and a record of activity are desirable but not essential.

Working 37.5 hours per week Mon-Fri normally but some evening and weekend work will be required.
