Job Details

Do you have a good nose for a story, a thirst for hard work and a desire to enhance your career? If so, this may be the opportunity for you. As a Communications professional in the trade association for one of the UK’s biggest, most successful industries, you will be dealing with everything from floods to pension reform.

Join the ABI as we navigate Brexit and you will be responsible for generating proactive media coverage, and managing reactive media enquiries to increase the external influence of the ABI and deliver for its members. You will also have the opportunity to apply your broader communications expertise to promote and protect the external profile of the insurance industry, and ensure the value of the ABI to its member firms.

Your role
The ABI is a high profile trade association that deals with national media on a daily basis. Your job will be a mix of proactive and reactive work – both pitching to press and responding to calls and breaking news, as well as considering how we can get our messages out across social media and the web.

Please note you will need to participate in the media duty rota approximately one week a month.

We’re looking for a background in public relations and good knowledge of the current political landscape. In your application and interview, we’ll be looking for someone confident, proactive and who is at their best in a fast paced, constantly changing environment. You’ll naturally build relationships quickly and be able to swiftly grasp and communicate complex concepts.

It’s important you enjoy working collaboratively – the communications team is relatively small and everyone must be willing to pitch in to support their colleagues.

Experience of the financial services sector is preferable, but not essential. We will also be looking for you to have some experience of dealing with national press. Finally, you’ll need to be able to integrate communications across social media and digital channels to make sure our messages have impact.

Closing Date: 6 September 2017
