The roles
2 x Senior Technology Officers, 1 x Lead Technology Officer.

Senior Technology Officers take the lead on specific technology-related policy activities which affect information rights. The role involves applying in-depth technical knowledge and expertise to privacy issues, producing guidance, researching the technological environment and ensuring the ICO stays ahead in a time of rapid change.

Lead Technology Officers work across a broad range of technology issues. The role involves undertaking technology-focussed research, contributing to the development of advice and guidance and using technical knowledge to ask the right questions and develop important topics of relevance to the ICO’s regulatory functions.

Both roles may also involve representing the ICO, such as liaising with key technology stakeholders at national and international level and/or undertaking speaking engagements of a technology-related nature.

Skills you’ll need
For the senior roles you’ll need 3 to 5 years' relevant experience, up to date expert knowledge of current trends and practices relating to the use of information communications and IT security technologies and extensive knowledge of computing sciences IT theories principles and practices.

For the lead role you’ll need 2 years' relevant experience, an awareness and interest in this field and a strong desire to continually develop your technical knowledge skills and abilities in this fast evolving area.

For both of the roles, in addition to your strong technical knowledge, you will be responsible, reliable and professional with excellent analytical skills. You must be a good communicator with the ability to write well, you will be able to explain complex technical matters in a simple and appropriate manner. You will have good research skills and the ability to apply your knowledge to new and emerging technologies in order to understand their impact on information rights.

The roles will involve responding to tight deadlines as well as national/international travel and some overnight stays.
