Paul Farrelly MP is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to work in his busy Westminster office.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, well-organised person, with strong communication skills and attention to detail, able to work on their own and as part of a wider team.

Previous experience of working in Parliament or a political environment is preferable but not essential, but a good working knowledge of Parliament and the legislative process is necessary.

Key responsibilities will be to:
• Undertake administrative tasks to manage the Westminster office;
• Respond effectively and courteously to policy casework correspondence and other enquiries;
• Support Paul in his parliamentary business, including monitoring bills, questions and debates, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation;
• Support Paul’s role as a member of the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee and various All Party Parliamentary Groups;
• Assist with managing Paul’s website;
• Conduct research and analysis for speeches, briefings and press articles;
• Attend meetings with Paul or on his behalf.

It is essential that candidates have:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Experience of working in Parliament or a political environment;
• The ability to work independently and show initiative, as well as to work with a team;
• Strong research and analytical skills;
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
• A strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritise a demanding workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

It is desirable that applicants have:
• Experience working for an MP or similar role;
• A commitment to Labour Party values.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
