Research is a vital part of Age UK’s work and as a Senior Research Manager you will work closely with Policy colleagues to influence decision-makers across all aspects of ageing, as well as supporting Services colleagues to deliver innovative and effective services for people in later life. You will line manage a team of quantitative and economic researchers in our London office, personally lead quantitative research projects, and support the Director of Policy & Research in shaping the organisation’s wider research strategy.

Main Duties
Work with colleagues to develop the Charity’s research strategy and position Age UK as an expert voice on ageing research.
Develop and deliver a strategic portfolio of externally commissioned research and in house analysis, with a particular focus on quantitative research.
Develop a strategy for evaluation across the charity and provide expert support and guidance to local partners and teams developing national services.
Work across the Charity to identify research needs and dependencies and ensure they are effectively managed and met, and provide limited support to the wider Age UK network.
Support Age UK’s influencing through the media by initiating ideas for media work, providing support and challenge to Media colleagues and representing the organisation in the media.

Your profile
Ability to project manage complex research activities, lead project teams, manage a complex workload, set priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent research skills (particularly quantitative analysis) with strong understanding of how evidence can be used to support charitable activities.
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to present complex issues in a persuasive, accessible style to a range of different audiences and in different settings (meetings, speeches, media etc).
Understanding of current trends and developments in age-related social research in the UK.
Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

Some travel with occasional nights away, including UK and occasional international travel.
